|Lust in Blue, original oil painting by

Tang painted two large paintings for this small series about lust: but it is the lust for material things, not for sex, per se. The first in the series of two was done in red. This one was done in blue, and we personally like it this way best.
The seductive women, therefore, are mere window dressing, in this piece. They represent, only, the seductive power that luxury goods, like those woven into the background, have, and hte lsut is so great, these days, that all subtlety has gone by the wayside. The piggishness has reached an apex, in modern Chinese society.

Contrary to your immediate thoughts, this is not about naked women: they are only symbolic of nakedness. After all, we bare our souls; we understand the naked truth. In modern Chinese culture, too, naked has taken on new meanings. For example, naked marriage is when a girl marries a boy who does not own his own house and car.
What Tang wants us to understand is that, these days, greed and the lust for material things have gone very far, in China. In the past, people may have been slightly subtle, but, today, they are no longer circumspect: their natures have been stripped naked. Their lust is boundless.

All dressed up in her fancy dress, stylish dangling earrings, and a corsage, in her hand, who could resist this dazzling statuesque beauty, who is a model, in real life? But although she appears beautiful on the outside, on the inside she is full of decay, like the rotting beneath tall grass.
This painting is done in a lighter style of the figurative portraiture techniques that Tang has developed, using strong lines to create bodies and faces. We love his style, in general, and this painting struck us as a real keeper.

Tang did a small series of people with hats, because, in China, people with hats are respected because their positions are a little higher than the masses. Although there are many construction workers, in China, the ones who wear hardhats are a bit more upscale.

Paper airplanes are a fond part of childhood: they were fun and easy to make and cost no money. These day, it seems that the era of kids making paper airplanes is past.
Paper airplanes follow a parabolic path: they will pass by you just once. Like ones youth, it will pass by quickly and only once, never to return again.
A voice inside ones head will say: it's time to get married. Most modern Chinese girls fear that if they do not marry by the time they are in their mid-twenties, they will never find a husband because the men want young wives. Yet, some will hesitate because they have not achieved success or other personal goals; they will say: wait. This is the reason that, today, in China, there are so many so-called leftover girls.

His son bought him an apartment at the beach to show off to his friends, but to save money, he bought one on the backside of the building, away from the sea breeze. The heat in southern China is always tough to bear, usually about 9 out of the 12 months of the year. Here the father sits in his chair with no shirt, a light hanging down from the ceiling with no lampshade, as is typical in many households, still, here, watching TV, and fanning himself. The writing on the wall in the background laments that the typhoon never came: even though typhoons pose danger, at least they have cooling winds [typhoon is from the Chinese, tai feng, much wind].
Tang Hai Guo takes his inspiration from figurative artists and expressionism, and we think that, in this one, he has made a really cool statement of social commentary about life in Southern China, in a really fun and different way.
