Frog Stone teapot by Jian Mei Zhen 02. Frog Stone zisha clay teapot art by Jian Mei Zhen (蒋美珍), Yixing, China

The stone name of this teapot derives from the shape with the so-called stone shape among teapot themes for centuries, although in varied forms.  In this one by Jiang Mei Zhen, there is added detail with overlaid "tree bark" on the handle and the spout, a small frog as the lid-pull, and delicate overlay in green and yellow on the sides.

All in all, it is a sweet little work of zisha teapot art.

竹段青蛙壶 蒋美珍 68. Frog on Bamboo zisha teapot by Jiang Mei Zhen (蒋美珍), Yixing, China

Marbling with streaks of different colored clay is a common theme in modern Yixing teapot art.  The soft, smooth, rounded shape of this teapot is soothing to the eye, and its deep dark eggplant base adds to its sense of comfort.  The faux bamboo handles and spot, and the cute little frog lid-pull complete its enchanting effect.  Sometimes, elegance derives from simplicity.
